The Ministry of Health is mandated to perform the following functions and responsibilities
- Health Policy and Planning
- Health services regulation and monitoring in both private and public sectors
- Public Health Services financing
- Provision of public and community health services
- Provision and management of Environmental Health Services

Permanent Secretary of Health and Human Services (Click here)
The Ministry of Health is headed by the Permanent Secretary (PS) who is the chief civil servant. The PS is the accounting officer within the Ministry and is responsible for the administration, supervision and control of all resources allocated by the government for the operation of public health services in the country. The PS is the chief policy advisor to the Minister of Health in collaboration with the technical health officers in the ministry and departments. The work of the PS is supported by the Undersecretary of Health and the Administrative Officer.

The Director of Health Services (DHS) is the the Chief Technical Officer in the Ministry of Health with responsibilities of the Chief Medical Officer under legislation. The DHS has responsibility for all technical unit, health regulatory bodies, health promotion, national disease prevention, surveillance and control.
Chief Nursing Officer (Click here)
The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is the chief techinical nursing advisor to the PS and DHS on nursing and midwifery policy, plans and stretegic direction. The CNO provides professional leadership to the nursing and midwifery profession and works closely with the professional statutory bodies and professional and staff associations.
